Losing Bidder Throws Wrench in FCC Broadband Dataset Rollout

A protest filed at the Government Accountability Office against the Federal Communications Commission may delay by 100 days the agency’s rollout of a dataset key to deploying broadband.

LightBox Parent L.P. filed a protest against a $45 million FCC contract with CostQuest Associates to build a broadband dataset.

The dataset is known as the “broadband serviceable location fabric,” which will show all locations in the U.S. where internet service can be installed. Congress required the FCC to build the fabric in the 2020 Broadband Deployment Accuracy and Technological Availability (DATA) Act.
