Lawmakers Seek Scrutiny of China Ownership in iRobot Bankruptcy

A bipartisan pair of lawmakers is asking Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to conduct a national security review of a proposal that would hand control of Roomba vacuum manufacturer iRobot Corp. to its main Chinese supplier as part of a bankruptcy case.

“This transaction raises substantial national security and data privacy concerns that warrant immediate Cfius scrutiny,” Representatives Ritchie Torres and Zach Nunn wrote in a letter Thursday to Bessent, who oversees the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US as part of his Treasury portfolio.
