Kids’ Online Bills Come to Senate Panel as Biden Urges Action

Lawmakers who blame major social media companies for a crisis in youth mental health are moving ahead with kids’ online safety and privacy legislation.

The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee on Thursday will consider a pair of bills that seek to crack down on social media platforms, a significant step forward after previous efforts to strengthen online safety and privacy languished.

“We’re trying to move it along,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a brief interview Wednesday.
