IRS Not in Full TikTok App Ban Compliance, Watchdog Says

The IRS took several steps to comply with a congressionally mandated ban of the popular social media application TikTok, but a few divisions still have access, the agency watchdog said Thursday.

Even after Office of Management and Budget guidance released in February outlined the time frame for removal from the agency’s 6,300 mobile devices, the agency’s Communications and Liaison group continued to have access, a Treasury Inspector for Tax Administration report said. Congress enacted a ban on the social media platform in the fiscal 2023 spending bill over perceived security risks associated with its Chinese ownership.
