Intuit Beats Patent Suit Targeting TurboTax on Co-Browsing Tech

A co-browsing feature in Intuit Inc.'s TurboTax doesn’t infringe Samesurf Inc.'s last remaining patent at issue in a lawsuit over shared web-browsing technology, a federal judge in California ruled.

Judge Robert S. Huie granted Intuit’s motion for summary judgment of noninfringement of US Patent No. 9,483,448 Thursday, denying as moot several of the parties’ pending motions.

The patent, which covers technology that lets multiple users browse and interact with the same online content simultaneously, expires in May 2030, Bloomberg Law estimates. Samesurf alleged a co-browsing feature in TurboTax Online and TurboTax Live infringes the patent.
