Impinj Says NXP Infringes Patents on Rain RFID Technology

Impinj expanded its patent-infringement battle with NXP over integrated circuits using radio frequency identification tags that are increasingly used by businesses to wirelessly connect products to the Internet.

  • Dispute is over technology used in RAIN RFID, a standard used for things like tracking baggage at airports, managing inventory at stores and automating supply chain management
    • Impinj makes the Monza chips that competes with NXP’s UCODE
  • Case is part of a broader dispute that also includes a patent-infringement lawsuit Impinj filed last year in California and one filed by NXP that’s now pendingin Washington state
