A California lawmaker revived state legislation Tuesday that would ban the sale of geolocation data on smartphones and other devices, arguing such information could help the Trump administration target undocumented residents for mass deportations.
Assemblymember Chris Ward (D) said Tuesday that he included new geolocation language to his privacy measure (AB 322) pending in the state Senate. Groups such as the ACLU of Northern California contend that the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has used mass location surveillance to target immigrants.
