Hotfile Alleges DMCA Takedown Abuses

Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. has repeatedly abused the Digital Millennium Copyright Act by using Hotfile Corp.'s anti-piracy tool to disable videos that it has no copyright ownership in, according to an answer and counterclaim filed by Hotfile Sept. 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Disney Enterprises Inc. v. Hotfile Corp.).

In February, four major studios a filed a lawsuit against the storage locker site alleging that Hotfile encouraged the infringement of copyrighted motion picture and television properties by compensating users for uploading infringing contents to its servers, (16 ECLR 222, 2/16/11). ...
