Healthcare service provider Health Net LLC’s decision to store member data using a 20-year old software led to a data breach in which hackers obtained the private information of more than a million Californians, a class suit filed in state court alleges.
Health Net used a file-transfer and storage system from Accellion, a private cloud solutions company. But rather than transfer to Accellion’s updated platform when it was urged to do so, Health Net allegedly continued to use an old system, which was targeted by a cyberattack in December 2020, the complaint says.
