GOP Threat Over Semiconductor Bill Blasted by US Commerce Chief

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell is creating an ill-timed “false choice” by threatening to block legislation that includes more than $50 billion to subsidize US semiconductor chip manufacturing, US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said.

“That has to pass,” Raimondo said on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday. “It has to pass now. Not in six months from now.”

Asked about complaints by some Democrats that President Joe Biden isn’t doing enough to combat the fastest rise in consumer prices in four decades, Raimondo flipped the focus to McConnell and the so-called CHIPS Act.
