Google to Pay $30 Million to Settle Suit Over Kids’ YouTube Data

Google LLC agreed to pay $30 million to settle a class action that alleged the tech giant illegally collected data from children who watched YouTube videos.

Counsel for the class of at least 35 million children told the US District Court for the Northern District of California Monday that the deal was great “for a case based on privacy invasion claims arising from” the alleged violations of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. The settlement would pay a pro rata amount to YouTube watchers who were under the age of 13 between 2013 and 2020.
