Google Subpoena For Contact Info Is Proper; No Good Cause for Docs ‘Related to’ Users

An individual was entitled to serve a subpoena on Google Inc. to obtain the names, contact information and IP addresses of anonymous Internet users who created an allegedly infringing blog hosted by Google’s “Blogger” service because such information was necessary to effect service of process, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California held May 28 (Assef v. Does 1-10, N.D. Cal., 3:15-cv-01960-MEJ, 5/28/15).
