Google Dodges Claims Over Project Fi Wi-Fi Data Charges

Alphabet Inc.'s Google has escaped false advertising claims over fees in its Project Fi mobile phone service.

Plaintiff Gordon Beecher had alleged Google breached its terms of service and violated California’s unfair competition and false advertising laws by misrepresenting to customers that it wouldn’t charge them for using mobile data while connected to Wi-Fi. Google operates Project Fi with Wi-Fi hotspots and wireless networks leased from other carriers.

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California Oct. 9 dismissed the claims, saying Beecher never mentioned in his complaint that he even saw the allegedly false promise.
