Google Asks Ninth Circuit for Rehearing in Kids’ Privacy Suit

Google LLC asked a federal appeals court to reconsider its decision to revive a class action alleging the Internet search giant and other Alphabet Inc. units violated children’s privacy by collecting and using their personal information for targeted ads.

A three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in December overturned a lower court’s dismissal of the lawsuit, holding that the plaintiffs’ state privacy-law claims weren’t pre-empted by the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and could go forward.
