Google Agrees to Pay $68 Million Over Device Recordings Suit

Google LLC would pay $68 million to settle a lawsuit alleging its Google Assistant technology intercepted users’ private conversations without their consent, under a proposed deal filed in federal court.

The settlement would provide for pro-rata allocation of the settlement fund according to a system assigning “points” to claimants based on whether they were purchasers of Google-made devices equipped with Google Assistant technology or users of Google Assistant technology whose communications were recorded and disclosed to a third-party review vendor.
