A new lawsuit against Alphabet Inc.’s Google by a German price-comparison site could open the door for European companies to argue that the search-engine giant’s dominance has hurt their businesses, attorneys told Bloomberg Law.
The complaint filed in Berlin on April 12 by Axel Springer SE’s Idealo comes nearly two years after the European Union fined Google 2.42 billion euros ($2.73 billion) for breaking antitrust rules by manipulating search results. Idealo is seeking 500 million euros ($565 million), alleging Google is still promoting its own shopping service to the disadvantage of competitors.
