Alaskan cable, data, voice and mobile operator GCI Communications, Inc. has added Fairbanks to the list of cities slated to see 1 Gbps services in targeted deployments by the end of 2016. GCI will deploy its “fiber re:D” (pronounced Fiber Red) service in the state’s third-largest city based on consumer demand, as expressed through online sign ups. According to GCI’s Fiber Red FAQ, “The neighborhood with the most applicants will be the first to get 1 gig speeds.”
