FTC Seeks Input on Federal Spam Rule

The Federal Trade Commission is seeking public comment on the rule implementing the federal law aimed at curtailing spam email.

The FTC seeks input on the costs, benefits and regulatory impact of the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing (CAN-SPAM) Act, 15 U.S.C. § 7704(a), which sets out requirements for sending commercial email messages. The rule, among other things, prohibits the sending of commercial emails to a recipient more than 10 business days after that recipient has opted out.
