FTC Accuses Match.com of Sending Users Deceptive Ads (1)

Match Group Inc. sent consumers “fake love interest” ads so they would pay to subscribe to its Match.com dating service, the Federal Trade Commission alleged in a lawsuit.

The agency Sept. 25 accused the dating site’s parent company of tricking subscribers into thinking that messages from fraudulent users were actually from people interested in dating them. Subscribers either gained access to scam messages or received notification that the account that sent the message is unavailable, the FTC said in a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
