Former Google CEO Says China Will Surpass U.S. in AI in 5 Years

Former Google Chief Executive Officer and Chairman Eric Schmidt predicted the U.S. is on track to lose its lead in artificial intelligence technology to China in five to 10 years, but warned against treating the relationship as an all-out arms race.

The Chinese government is working hard to overcome the U.S., investing billions of dollars to gain a lead not just in AI but also wireless communications, quantum technology, supercomputing and more, Schmidt told a hearing of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology on Wednesday.
