FCC’s Carr Says Sports-TV Inquiry May Not Lead to Any Action

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr said that an inquiry the commission launched into the rising cost of watching sports on TV may not lead to any regulatory action.

“We’re just trying to make sure that we’re educated on these issues,” Carr said in a brief interview Wednesday on the sidelines of conference in Washington. “It’s not clear whether there will be a regulatory outcome or not.”

The commission, which regulates TV and radio broadcasts, began soliciting comments on sports broadcasting practices in February. The agency was concerned, according to its request, about a surge in games appearing on subscription ...
