FCC Weighs Lifting Charter Merger Conditions Two Years Early

Charter Communications Inc.'s request to sunset conditions tied to its Time Warner Cable Inc. acquisition two years early is getting a public review from the Federal Communications Commission.

The FCC said in a notice on Monday that it would seek comment on Charter’s petition asking to terminate the conditions in May 2021 instead of May 2023.

The conditions require Charter not to cap data usage for internet service or charge interconnection fees on video companies including Amazon.com Inc. The then-Democratic-led FCC in 2016 imposed the conditions in approving Charter’s acquisition of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks LLC.
