- Stations can air same-day services instead of children’s programs
- Action taken to encourage social distancing during Easter and Passover
The Federal Communications Commission is temporarily allowing television broadcasters to air same-day religious services and other local content during hours that stations normally reserve for children’s programming.
The agency issued a temporary waiver, through April 30, saying in its public notice that it would help encourage social distancing and make it easier for people to participate in Easter and Passover services during the coronavirus pandemic. TV stations will not be required to reschedule preempted children’s programming.
“By making it easier for local TV stations to broadcast religious services and rituals to the faithful in their homes, we can enable both social distancing and observance,” FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said in a statement.
