FCC Seeks Media Ownership Ruling Redo From Third Circuit (1)

The Federal Communications Commission is asking the full Third Circuit appeals court to rehear its decision to cancel the agency’s new media ownership rules.

The FCC petitioned the court to review a three-judge panel’s reversal of its order easing restrictions on companies from owning a certain number of broadcast stations and newspapers in a single market.

“In multiple appeals spanning over fifteen years, the same divided panel of this Court has frustrated the Commission’s repeated attempts to modernize its media ownership rules to reflect the realities of today’s dynamic and competitive media marketplace,” the FCC said in its Nov. 7 ...
