FCC Proposes Biggest-Ever Pirate Radio Station Fine

The Federal Communications Commission proposed a $453,015 fine against an alleged Boston-area pirate radio station operator, its largest-ever such proposed penalty, the agency said.

The agency voted unanimously at its Dec. 12 meeting to propose the fine against Gerlens Cesar for allegedly broadcasting an FM station called RadioTeleBoston illegally on the 91.1 MHz and 92.1 MHz frequencies in the Boston area. The fine would be the maximum amount allowed under the FCC’s statutory authority.

The agency also voted unanimously to propose a $151,005 fine against Acerome Jean Charles, who allegedly operates an illegal pirate FM radio station called Radio Concorde ...
