FCC Moves to Support Telehealth, Remote Learning

The Federal Communications Commission has adopted a plan aimed at supporting telehealth and remote learning for students during the coronavirus pandemic.

The FCC temporarily lifted rules that ban health care providers, schools, and libraries that receive federal discounts on telecommunications services from accepting gifts from broadband providers. The rules are waived through Sept. 30.

The action will allow hospitals and educators to solicit and receive improved services from broadband providers, such as Wi-Fi hotspots, additional broadband capacity, and network gear, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said in a statement.
