The Federal Communications Commission will vote Feb. 28 on a proposal aimed at expanding broadband internet use on frequencies located between broadcast TV channels, known as white spaces.
“TV white spaces can play a critical role in providing broadband services to rural and underserved areas,” FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said in a statement announcing the proposal.
“The FCC has taken steps to enable the use of white spaces over the years, and this new proposal would further help bridge the digital divide while protecting TV stations,” Pai said.
