FCC, FTC Warn Companies to Stop Carrying Covid-19 Robocalls (1)

The Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Trade Commission are warning three phone traffic-routing companies to stop carrying foreign robocalls pushing Covid-19-related scams.

The agencies sent letters demanding that SIPJoin, Connexum, and VoIP Terminator stop sending spam robocall campaigns, including one said to originate in the Philippines that offers fake free Covid-19 tests and another said to be from Pakistan that markets HVAC cleaning services.

“These warning letters make clear that VoIP providers who help illegal robocallers prey on fears surrounding the Coronavirus are squarely in our sights,” FTC Chairman Joe Simons said in a statement, referring to the voice-over-internet-protocol ...
