FCC Boosts Health Care Connection Funds to Fight Coronavirus (2)

The Federal Communications Commission has approved a plan to shore up funding for its rural health care program to respond to the new coronavirus.

The order, adopted Friday, allows the FCC’s Universal Service Administrative Co. (USAC) to carry forward more than $42 million in unused funds to eliminate a funding shortfall for the Rural Health Care Program for fiscal year 2019.

Demand for the program, which helps subsidize health providers’ internet connections, is $719.5 million for fiscal year 2019, but only $677 million had been available.
