FCC Appeals Media Ownership Ruling to High Court (1)

The Federal Communications Commission on Friday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review a lower court action that struck down looser media ownership rules.

The U.S. Solicitor General, on behalf of the agency, filed a petition appealing the September 2019 decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the commission said in a statement.

“The Supreme Court’s intervention is necessary to restore the Commission’s discretion to regulate in the public interest and modernize media ownership regulation for the digital age, as Congress intended,” FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said.
