Facebook Inc. must improve information security within 10 weeks or risk being shut out from Colombia and its 31 million users, the nation’s data regulator said.
The ruling this month by Colombia’s data protection authority—together with an earlier finding by the same agency in February—give Facebook until June 14 to implement safeguards to prevent unauthorized access to user accounts. The decisions constitute a rejection of Facebook’s appeal of an initial finding in January 2019.
Facebook didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. The company can appeal to Colombia’s judiciary.
