TikTok Inc. isn’t fulfilling a European Union requirement meant to protect consumers from scam advertisements, putting the company at risk of a fine, the bloc’s executive arm said in a preliminary finding.
The ByteDance Ltd. company isn’t making enough information available about the content of ads on its platform, who’s targeted by the ads and who paid for them, the European Commission said in a statement on Thursday. TikTok has a right to reply, but if the findings are confirmed, the short-video platform may be fined as much as 6% of its worldwide annual sales, the commission said.
