EU Ramps Up Content Moderation Probes Against Meta, TikTok (1)

Meta Platforms Inc. and ByteDance Ltd.’s TikTokhave breached European Union rules designed to tackle illegal or harmful online content, according to early findings from the bloc.

The EU’s executive arm, the European Commission, said Meta’s Facebook and Instagram as well as TikTok are in breach of the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA) for not allowing independent researchers to easily access data on their platforms.

Those violations impact researchers’ ability to examine whether users, including children, are exposed to harmful or illegal content, the commission said on Friday.
