EU Creates Online Dispute Resolution Platform

The European Commission has created an online dispute resolution platform that it hopes will foster cross-border online trade between EU member states by making the process of solving consumer complaints easier.

Beginning Feb. 15, all online merchants in the EU—from small shops to global players like Amazon.com Inc. and eBay Inc.—are legally obligated to place a hyperlink on their website pointing to the new dispute resolution platform.

“Studies revealed that some consumers were unwilling to enter into online transactions with companies based outside their home market,” Marie-Louise Gregory, an arbitration specialist at Walker Morris LLP in Leeds, U.K. told Bloomberg ...
