Steve McKay says linear TV is still the “killer app” in the video space, even though it’s increasingly threatened by “over-the-top” Web-based content that is tempting more and more consumers to cancel their pay television service.
The chief executive of connected-home solutions provider Entone believes Web-based video should be the “trimmings” for a robust high-definition television service. With that ideal, McKay’s Cupertino, Calif.-based company today unveiled FusionTV, a managed service that enables telephone companies—most of which only resell direct broadcast satellite—to bundle a rich array of video services with their broadband Internet services.
