Education advocacy groups are petitioning the Federal Communications Commission to allow federal broadband subsidies for schools to be used for off-campus Wi-Fi routers and other virtual learning tools.
The coalition of groups, led by the SHLB Coalition, asked the Federal Communications Commission to issue a ruling that funds in the E-Rate program, which pays for broadband connections to schools and libraries, “may be used to support off-campus equipment and services” to expand remote learning during the pandemic.
The FCC didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
