BRUSSELS—A wholesale broadband pricing plan proposed by Italy’s national telecom regulator that would lower the fees companies pay to use former monopoly Telecom Italia’s fixed-line network would deter competition and overall growth in the Italian internet market and should be revised, the European Commission ruled Aug. 12.
Concerned that the market survey data Italian regulator AGCOM used to justify its pricing plan is not up to date, the Commission used recently acquired powers to require a revised pricing plan be submitted within three months.
