The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California Jan. 9 dismissed a putative class action against online auctioneer eBay, turning back a handful of antitrust claims arising from eBay’s adoption of a certification process to stem abuse in its online-auction of coins (Universal Grading Service v. eBay Inc., N.D. Cal., 5:09-cv-02755-RMW, 1/9/12).
eBay’s certification process authorized five services to grade an auctioned coin as “certified.” In March 2011, less than one percent of the coins on eBay’s platform had “certified” status.
