eBay to Pay $59m to Settle Controlled Substances Act Allegations

eBay will pay $59m to settle allegations that it violated the Controlled Substance Act with regard to sales of pill presses and encapsulating machines, according to the US DOJ.

• Allegedly failed to comply with reporting and record-keeping requirements for sales of products that can be used to manufacture illegal drugs
• Investigation found eBay’s pill press buyers have been successfully prosecuted for trafficking illegal counterfeit pills
• Company also agreed to enhance compliance program
