Discovery Inc.’s Polish Unit Faces New Risk From Media Regulator

Poland’s media regulator wants the country’s Constitutional Tribunal to check ownership rules for foreign broadcasters, reopening a rift over the local television unit of U.S.-based Discovery Inc.

The National Broadcasting Council said on Wednesday that in its view current rules don’t allow Discovery to own 100% in its TVN unit, and asked the country’s president and prime minister to file a case about the issue to the highest court.

The government has long tried to reduce Discovery’s clout, blaming TVN’s often critical coverage on its foreign ownership. The move comes a month after the ruling Law & Justice party ...
