House Democrats are taking aim at big tech’s liability shield with a bill that would hold internet companies accountable for extremist content that could lead to violence offline.

Anna Eshoo andTom Malinowski introduced “Protecting Americans from Dangerous Algorithms Act” on Tuesday - Bill would amend Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which protects tech firms from liability over third-party content
- Would remove immunity if platform’s algorithm promotes, recommends or amplifies content that involves acts of international terrorism or that interferes with civil rights
 - Would apply to companies with more than 50 million users
