Cox Unveils Free Security, Backup Services for HSD Subs

Cox Communications has introduced new security software and online backup for its high-speed data customers, using services from McAfee and Broomfield, Colo.-based Digi-Data.

The new offerings, free to Cox HSD subscribers, is designed to help the company’s HSD service stand out from telephone company’s broadband services. But it’s likely that the telcos will soon follow suit, giving Cox just a temporary differentiator.

The cable operator’s customers can download Cox Security Suite Plus Powered By McAfee, to get protection against viruses, spam, spyware and phishing. The suite also provides email and instant message protection features, and the SiteAdvisor Plus website rating ...
