Cox All-Digital Push Preps for Gigabit

Cable operator Cox Communications is laying the groundwork for its planned deployment of DOCSIS 3.1-compliant gear—and the gigabit services those deployments will enable—by clearing channels currently carrying analog television signals over its hybrid fiber-coax network infrastructure.

The company has set a target of completing its transition to all-digital video infrastructure in all of its markets by the end of 2017. The technology shift, which reduces the amount of network bandwidth required to deliver the same number of video channels, is a prerequisite for offering ultra-high-speed data services to all locations passed in a given market.
