A settlement requiring internet company AOL Inc. to make up to $5 million in cash payments to settle class claims that it unlawfully released the search information of more than 650,000 AOL members received final approval May 24 in federal district court (Landwehr v. AOL Inc., E.D. Va., 1:11-cv-01014-CMH-TRJ, 5/24/13).
The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia certified the action as a class action and approved the payment of $931,242.52 in attorneys’ fees, costs, and expenses to counsel for the settlement class. It also approved a $9,900 incentive award for the named plaintiff.
