The Department of Commerce has appointed Roscoe C. Howard Jr., a partner at Barnes & Thornburg LLP, to oversee ZTE Corp.'s compliance with U.S. export laws while the Chinese telecommunications manufacturer is on probation.
The Trump administration banned U.S. exports to ZTE after it said the company violated sanctions agreements by selling American technology to Iran and North Korea. ZTE, in exchange for lifting the seven-year ban, agreed to a settlement that included a $1.76 billion fine and a 10-year probationary period.
