Clearwire Launches in NYC as New 4G Competition Looms

Clearwire has launched its New York City-area mobile WiMAX network with only a couple of months to go before Verizon’s LTE network is scheduled to come on line. The company announced that it now covers 11 million people in the city’s five boroughs, along with six northern New Jersey counties.

The company also announced availability of its service in and around New Brunswick and Trenton, N.J., creating a regional footprint that extends (with varying degrees of coverage) from New York City to Philadelphia.
