China to Strengthen Facial Recognition Technology Management

China releases a document on facial recognition technology, and bans installation of facial recognition equipment in private spaces in hotel rooms, public bathrooms, and public toilets, according to a statement from the Cyberspace Administration of China.

  • Facial information should be stored in the facial recognition device and not be transmitted externally via the internet
  • If an individual disagrees with identity verification through facial recognition, alternative methods should be provided
