Canadian Regulator Clarifies Service Cancellation Policies

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) May 5 clarified rules for telecommunications service cancellations and refunds that impact both consumers and service providers.

Canada’s telecommunications regulator ruled that service providers cannot charge for services after a customer has cancelled them and must provide pro-rated refunds for cancelled prepaid services, but said the companies are entitled to reasonable compensation when customers cancel a new service.
