Canada’s spam and telemarketing regulator collected C$1.23 million ($950,000) in penalties from six Canadian companies for unsolicited telemarketing calls in violation of the Unsolicited Telecommunications Rules, it announced June 29.
Sirius XM Canada Inc. paid the largest fine, C$650,000 ($500,000), for hiring telemarketers to make calls on its behalf, and Raid Inc. paid C$500,000 ($385,000) for hiring call centers to make calls for clients, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) said.
