Canada-Based Bodog.com Domain Name Seized in Maryland for Gambling Crimes

A domain name through which operators allegedly offer illegal gambling services in Maryland is subject to seizure and civil forfeiture, the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland concluded in a Feb. 29 warrant authorizing law enforcement to obtain control of the domain from registry operator VeriSign Inc. (United States v. Bodog.com Internet Domain Name, D. Md., 1:12-cv-00637-CCB, 2/29/12).

The seizure warrant was issued in a civil forfeiture action running parallel to prosecution of Canadian individuals operating the website.
